Naish Kitesurfing 2010 E-News August

 

	Issue 26 - August 19, 2010

Naish Summer Kite Race Series/Hawaii It’s been an exciting summer for kiters in Hawaii. With three races done now, and the State Championship Race coming up, the Naish Kite Race Series Hawaii has gained plenty of momentum. The third installment of the Naish Kite Race Series was held at Kailua Bay on the island of Oahu, on August 7th. The race began with light but steady wind — perfect conditions to highlight the performance possbilities of the Naish Venturi race board. 30+ riders signed up to fill in the Race/Surf/Twin Tip Divisions. The race course had riders covering a large portion of Kailua Bay. The beach was lined with spectators and a great time was had by all! While the race boards were perfect in the light winds, the real competition was in the surfboard and twin tip fleets. Many riders from Maui were unaccustomed to the lighter winds, and the Kailua crowd proved that local knowledge pays off! Results — Race 2 (Maui) Race board Results — Overall 1st - Alex Aguera 2nd - Patri McClaughlin 3rd - Shawn Richman Naish’s Des Walsh placed in 4th in this division, and Kai Lenny in 6th. Raquel Da Lima placed in 7th, the top female for this division! Tony Groman placed in 8th. Surfboard Results — Overall 1st - Greg Drexler 2nd - Shawn Richman 3rd - Monte Bell Scott Drexler placed 8th in this division. Raquel Da Lima finished as the top woman in this division and was tied for 13th place overall. Twin Tip Results — Overall 1st - Patri McClaghlin 2nd - Cruser Putnam 3rd - Shawn Richman Naish’s Greg Drexler placed 5th in the Twin Tip Division. Women’s Results — Overall 1st - Raquel Da Lima Cruz 2nd - Natasha Gronski 3rd - Verda Okmen 4th - Karlie Thoma 5th - Sarina Erstad & Deimantina Results — Race 3 (Kailua) Race board Results 1st - Alex Aguera 2nd - Kai Lenny 3rd - John Amundson 4th - Josh Seymour 5th - Graham Botlz Surfboard Results 1st - Mike Scott 2nd - Tony Groman 3rd - Monte Bell 4th - Samuel Perez 5th - Devin Moody Twin tip Results 1st - Michael James Smith 2nd - Samuel Perez 3rd - Davis McClure 4th - Devin Moody 5th - Kevin Wade Women’s Results 1st - Raquel de Lima Cruz 2nd - Karlie Thoma 3rd - Natasha Gronski Come out and join us for the State Championship, happening on Saturday, August 21st at Naish Beach. There is a $20 entry fee, which you can pay at the Naish Pro Center, or on race day. The Skipper’s Meeting will be at 10:30am, and the 1st start will happen at 11am. The day will be full of fun, including a Shadowbox Big Air Competition, and an awards ceremony that begins at 4:30pm. Kiteboard Instructor wanted, job offer.

As we busily prepare for the upcoming season it would appear we need another instructor.
We offer flexible working conditions and the opportunity to work with Brisbanes longest running and most respected kite school.

The applicant will have-

• IKO level 1 or 2 Instructor 
• Minimum of 3 years kiteboarding experience
• Good communication skills and be fluent in English

Must have or be able to obtain quickly-

• Current First Aid Certificate
• QLD Boat Licence 

Period of employment is from September 2010 to May 2011.
Full terms and conditions of employment available on application.

Ted Smout Memorial Bridge Opening

Along with about 35,000 other members of the public the BrisKites crew attended the opening of the Ted Smout Bridge.
The only difference is instead of walking over it we paddled under it.

Taking off from 19th Avenue in Brighton we paddled to the bridge and then across to the other side. The water is a little chilly this time of the year but perfect condidtions on the bay ensured the trip was spent high and dry.

North Kiteboarding 1st

1ST & 2ND AT NORTH Kiteboarding BKSA RACE THIS WEEKEND EVENT IN REDCAR. A close battle between Edge Callum, UK, and North Rep team mate 3 x Kite Race Champion - Steph Bridge at the British race event in the North East of England this weekend. Riding on the North Race ltd & Rebel with 14mtr long lines both riders dominated the front end of the fleet. Disappointing for the Bridglets who wanted to prove their skills in the freestyle heats, however the wind did not deliver for this. Check their new video out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWN6h4ENh5g

The next QKS fly day is this Sunday 13th Jun. Come along and check out some of the huge display kites. Bring your own kites or try some of ours to join in.
The BrisKites Crew will be there to help out and give you some free lessons on 2 and 4 line Sport kites.
